A weekend full of flowers and gardens in Copenhagen

Last year my sister and I decided to buy our lovely mum a girls trip for her birthday, and this April we finally got to go on said trip - to Copenhagen! We were completely spoilt with the weather and had such a lovely time doing lots of walking, eating and sightseeing. And still getting early nights - my ideal trip!

I had been to Copenhagen in the past but I went in January and I was a (skint) student, so this was a very different trip! I would highly recommend Copenhagen for a city break, it has such a lovely vibe - loads of bikes (therefore less cars!!), amazing parks and green spaces, gorgeous architecture and lots of lovely things to do.

I thought I would share some of my photography from the trip and a few details of things we did - incase anyone is interested or might find it useful for an upcoming trip!

First up, the iconic Nyhavn - Copenhagen’s most famous street! The fourth pic was taken right outside our AirBnb - we stayed on a street called ‘Magstræde’ - it was a great spot for exploring, really close to everything so we were able to pop back and fourth to the apartment in between activities.

On two of our mornings we picked up pastries from a vegan bakery called Landbageriet - both times I got a cinnamon roll (boring I know!) and they were super delicious.

We arrived on Friday night so just went straight for dinner and then back to our AirBnb to get some sleep, but on Saturday morning we started the day with a trip to the Botanic Gardens which was high up on all of our must-do lists! It was so gorgeous, especially the glass houses. We also were also very brave and went into the butterfly house which was soooo lovely - highly recommend even if you’re a bit nervous about things flying in your face like I am!

Very excited to have gotten that shot of the blue butterfly (which I think is maybe a moth?)!! They weren’t easy to capture because they moved around so erratically!

Next up, some more of the gorgeous architecture, absolutely spoilt with pretty things to take photos of in Copenhagen.

We visited some lovely shops, including Studio Arhoj, who I have been following on instagram for years. They blow glass and make ceramics on site so you can watch them at work whilst you shop which was fun. I picked myself up one of their Familia figurines of course. Also took a trip to the HAY Design shop which was heavenly, full of drool-worthy homewares and interiors. I came away with two of their Barro bowls which I’ve had my eye on for a while.

There were pots full of delicate, gorgeous pansies everywhere!

After shopping and getting some lunch, we headed to the Design Museum, I only took a few pics whilst we were there but it was really cool and worth a visit if you’re into furniture/design/mid-century etc, plus they had a great gift shop - always a win.

On Sunday morning, we went to a park called Langelinieparken because there was a Sakura festival on, also known as the cherry blossom festival which is a Japanese tradition of celebrating the beauty of cherry blossoms, particularly the fleeting bloom of the sakura trees. We saw gorgeous kimonos, crane oragami, blossoms and a Samurai Warrior!

This park was also the location of Kastellet, a military fortress which originally we weren’t sure about visiting but since we were there already we decided to have a wander around and it was so worth the visit!! Really gorgeous park design and architecture, plus lots of ducks and cute flowers! Fell in love with the little white flowers which I believe are ‘Drooping Star of Bethlehem’.

We then went to Bistro Verde for lunch where I forgot to take any photos because I was literally shaking with hunger by the time we got there, but oh my word it was so delicious and the staff were soooo lovely, highly highly recommend. I had the Burger which is very classic predictable me but it was such a luxurious veggie burger I just couldn’t resist. We did get some more adventurous starters which were equally perfect.

After popping back to our Airbnb to freshen up and take our shoes off for a few minutes, we headed back out to Tivoli gardens, the 2nd oldest amusement park in the world! I was super excited to visit, when I last came to Copenhagen, it was out of season and Tivoli was closed. We paid for the ticket that didn’t include a ride pass because it was cheaper and we weren’t super fussed to go on any rides. I would definitely recommend visiting even if you don’t want to go on any rides because it is literally the most beautiful amusement park I’ve ever seen and the gardens surrounding all the rides are so gorgeous (as are the rides themselves!).

After Tivoli, we thought we wouldn’t want to do anything else but it still felt quite early so we headed up the Round Tower which is a gorgeous tower with amazing views of the whole city, and it has a ramp all the way up instead of stairs and an art gallery half way up.

After that we were all knackered from all the walking, so we headed back to the apartment to chill and get an early night. Our flight home on Monday wasn’t until 2pm so we had time for a fair amount of walking in the morning. We went for a wander round one of the Lakes and lots of gorgeous streets that felt a lot like the colonies in Edinburgh.

And that’s it for our trip to Copenhagen :) I’ll finish with some bonus shots that I liked. All photos were taken on my Fujifilm XT-3 with the 35mm f2 fuji lens.

Thanks for reading!

Lots of love,

Holly x
